John Michael Turns Three

Thursday, May 1, is John Michael's birthday, but his party was this morning. Nancy and I drove to Birmingham yesterday (Friday) and stayed over night in anticipation of the big event. It stormed and rained throughout the early morning, but by the time the guests started to arrive at 10:30, the rain had stopped. So the garage door was opened, and everyone partied in the basement and the driveway.

Jenny, at John Michael's request, hosted a "Super-Why" theme. She made blue capes for each kid; you can see the sting holding the cape in place around John Michael's neck. And that's one of the Super Why characters on the cake. The piñata, which you can see if you roll your mouse/cursor over the picture, is Buzz Lightyear. Or I should say "was". After many attempts to break the piñata by the kids, Mark was called in to finish him off. And the candy went everywhere!

Eight guests, counting brother Jackson and cousins Emma and Anne Douglas but not counting Moms, Dads, Grandparents, and a Great Grandmother, had a good time, and there was plenty of cake and ice cream for all. Nancy and I drove home this evening.
