December Snow

It "snowed" in Huntsville on Monday. When it started, Nancy shoved the camera into my hands and ran outside for this picture. I'm not sure it was really snow. It looked more like hail, but the ground was partially covered with white, frozen stuff for about 15 minutes. Oh,well. That's what we generally call "snow" in Alabama. Pitiful, huh?

Those who were lucky enough to see the sky just after sunset on Monday, the same day it snowed in Huntsville, noted the remarkable conjunction of the crescent Moon, Venus, and Jupiter. If you happened to be in Australia, you saw that conjunction as a smiley face. I was NOT in Australia, however. I credit astronomer Mike Salway and the Astronomy Picture of the Day for this great picture.
