A New Ride

After we sold our Prius to our grandson Ian (last week's post), we were pretty much thinking that we could do well with only one car. That thought lasted exactly 9 days. We now have a 2019 Honda Insight parked in the driveway.

Tuesday we drove to the Honda dealer up on Bob Wallace. Why there? Well that dealership is a good 10 miles closer to our house than the Toyota dealer and an easy 15 miles closer than the Ford Dealer. Every time I take our Ford into the dealer for something like an oil change, I feel like I'm driving into Tennessee! So, the Honda dealer it was.

We looked at the Clarity first, a plug-in electric vehicle. But I wasn't all that thrilled with a 45 mile limit on single charge. So we honed in on the hybrid Honda Insight. I was hooked after a short test drive. It only remained to choose a color, and that was an issue.

It is available in 7 colors. White, light gray (they call it silver), and darker gray; like every car you see in any parking lot in Alabama. So, not those 3. Then 2 black colors, they call one cosmic blue. Those dark colors are hard to keep clean and in the Alabama summer they heat up very quickly. Now they did have a color called aegean blue metallic that was a candidate, but it just didn't look like something I would drive. Too pastel. So, having eliminated all those colors, we settled on the only remaining color, crimson pearl, also the only Insight color not on their lot. They promised to have one by the following day. I do want to say that living in Alabama, home of the Crimson Tide, had nothing to do with the choice of color.

Wednesday morning around 11 we returned to the dealer, signed all the papers resulting in the death of at least one tree, and drove away in the car you see pictured above.
