Jenny's Day

Tomorrow is our favorite daughter-in-law's birthday. We're not in Birmingham, so I dove into the archive and found the picture on the right, which was taken 3 years ago yesterday. Then I looked for something more current and decided to post the picture above. It was taken at WaterColor Beach last June. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Jenny. Sorry we couldn't be there to help you celebrate.

BTW: Just in case you were wondering, we have only 1 son and therefore only 1 daughter-in-law.

There are no clouds in the sky, and the sun is out big and bright. It's the first weekend since the middle of January that it hasn't been raining. We should be able to go to church this evening without getting soaked.

Speaking of church, I sang with the choir this past Wednesday evening. The entire service was chanted in Latin. One of the pieces was from the end of the sixth century and is attributed to Pope Gregory. Most of the others were only a thousand years old! I like singing the Latin chants. Some of them take me as far back as my pre-teen years. The hardest part is learning to read the music. Latin chants don't use the modern 5-line treble clef to score the music. They use a 4-line staff called a Do Clef or a Fa Clef. The notes are printed as squares, and a square note all by itself is called a punctum. It takes some getting used to.

Nancy continues to slowly improve. Thursday evening we joined our friends Steve and Estelle for dinner at Ruby Tuesday. Estelle had foot surgery recently and was walking in a boot. Nancy was walking with a cane. It looked somewhat like Steve and I haven't been taking good care of our wives.

Aside: It was the first time that we had to wait to be seated at Ruby Tuesday. They scheduled a birthday party for 60 people on the same day that they offered a 1-day BOGO on any entree. We didn't know about either. The place was packed. While we were waiting, we ran into 4 people we hadn't seen in many years. It was fun catching up. We were seated after an unusual 45-minute wait and enjoyed the dinner and the company.
