Our Circle Gets a Repair

We woke up Thursday morning to a machine ripping up the asphalt on the street outside our home. That's our driveway on the left side of the picture. We have been complaining to each other for several years about the condition of Gilstead Circle, and now something is finally being done. It was so bad up at the end of the circle, where Gilstead meets Ferncliffe, that driving across the intersection was quite literally a hazard. I'm not sure what we'll be doing when they start paving.

We made an interesting calculation this week. We moved into our house on Louis Drive in January of 1973 and moved out 22 years and 8 months later in September 1995. We've been in our current home since September 1995, 22 years and 10 months. That's the longest period of time either of us lived in one place. The last time I did a calculation like this was in June 2002. That's when I realized that I was 60, and we had lived in Huntsville since June 1972, half my life.
