A Surprise Visit

Last week I posted the story of Nancy's accident in Michigan, her surgery at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, her transportation home, and her becoming a patient at Healthsouth Rehabilitation Hospital in Huntsville.

This is her 11th day of rehab, and I am happy to say that she is improving daily. While she hates spending many hours in a bed, they do get her up for several hours each day for physical and occupational therapy. The fine motor skills in her hands are now developed enough to allow her to eat her breakfast, lunch, and dinner with minimal help. And in just the last couple of days, she began taking a few steps with the help of a walker. So there's an update. Now what about the pictures?

Last Friday Mark and Jenny brought their kids to Huntsville to visit grandma. Jackson (15), John Michael (12), and Margaret (8) were exactly the right medicine for Nancy. They stayed for 2 more visits on Saturday and Sunday, and Nancy still smiles when she recalls last weekend.

Two things I want to point out about the top picture. First her neck brace. The surgeon told her that she needed to wear that brace for about a month. She's hoping to get it removed around the middle of this month. And what about the quilt in both pictures. Well, our daughter Melissa says she made that quilt in 6 days after she heard about the accident. Nancy was happy to receive it and astounded that Melissa completed the quilt in so short a time. It's on the dining room table awaiting Nancy's return home.
