Way back on April 4 we talked to a rep from a local fencing company about new railings for our front porch steps. It took 2 months but they were finally installed last week. I'm pretty sure these railings were a rather low priority at this particular fencing company. However, the railings are nice, and I'm sure they will be helpful for some of our older friends when they come to visit. And they do enhance the entrance to our home. I think.

Fifty years ago this week I sailed into Philadelphia on the SS Remson Heights. We had just completed a voyage that began in San Francisco at the beginning of April and included Japan, Vietnam, India, the Suez Canal, Morocco, and Germany in that order. Nancy drove to Philly to meet the ship. First order of business was an engagement ring. Yep, we were officially engaged 50 years ago today, plus or minus 1 day.

Tomorrow is our son Mark's birthday. It's always neat when his birthday ends up on Fathers' Day. He was born 1 day after Fathers' Day, but I always consider it the best Fathers' Day present ever. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Mark.
