A Birthday Remembered

Thursday was my Mother's birthday. She was born 104 years ago in Nanty-Glo, a small town in western Pennsylvania. She was a school teacher. I remember her teaching 3rd grade at the local public grade school. (Aside: I went to 1st and 2nd grade in the same school, but rather than have me in her 3rd grade class, she transferred me to St. Mary's. Who could blame her?) She retired and moved to Huntsville in 1974. She lived, traveled, and enjoyed lots of good times for another 15 years. About a month after this picture was taken, she died during surgery to repair a heart valve. We were on our way to Melissa's high school graduation. We were all dressed up, so I set up a tripod and snapped this picture. I think it's the last one we have of my Mother.

Tomorrow is Easter, the first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox. Nancy had fun yesterday afternoon coloring eggs, and I thought a picture was in order. When the real Easter Bunny comes tomorrow, I'm expecting a chocolate bunny or two. Looking forward to that.
