We didn't take any pictures this week. It didn't snow in Huntsville. We didn't visit anyone, and nobody visited us. I did go to the Macaroni Grill with former co-workers John Regner and Jerry Bunyard. John retired yesterday, and we celebrated over a fine Italian meal. At the house, we cleaned stuff and donated things. All in all, not a picture worthy week.
I did continue my scanning project, which I now project to be completed by 2061. This picture showed up just this morning. During the Christmas season at the end of 1961, I was invited to a luncheon sponsored by the Right Honorable Congressman John P. Saylor from the 22nd district of Pennsylvania. Included in the get-together were all of the Cadets and Midshipmen that the Congressman appointed to and were currently attending one of the 5 federal academies. Standing on the far right is one of the 3 guys from the Air Force Academy, and next to him are the only 2 guys from the Merchant Marine Academy. That would be Ron Shingler and myself, second from the right. There are 4 Cadets from West Point. The other 2 Air Force Cadets are standing 6th and 9th from the left. The rest are Midshipmen from either the Naval Academy or the Coast Guard Academy. I'm sorry. I can't see the uniform differences in this picture.
I was at sea for the luncheons in '62 and '63, but I did attend in 1964. The one and only thing I remember from those meetings is that the Congressman seemed to know our names and the towns we were from. I thank him one more time for the unique opportunity.
