Last Tuesday, in Birmingham, right around noon, the rain turned to ice and snow, and the city was literally shut down. They weren't prepared because everyone expected the snow and ice to build up further south.

Jenny picked up the kids when she found out the schools were closing, but by the time she got to the top of the hill leading down to their house, it was too iced over to navigate. So she left the car at a friend's house, and everybody walked home. Mark walked home from his office. He invited his assistants to come with him, but they chose to spend the night at the office. It wasn't until yesterday that Mark got both cars back into their garage.

While it was super inconvenient for the adults, the kids enjoyed the snow. Jenny sent us this picture of Jackson, John Michael, and Margaret braving the single digit temperatures and playing in the snow.
