It snowed on Thursday. After about 5 days of rain, the cold temperatures arrived and the white flakes started falling from the sky. In Huntsville it was mostly ice, which melted by Thursday evening. But 100 miles SOUTH of here in Birmingham it really did snow, and our grandchildren got to spend some time in the great outdoors playing in the white stuff. Jenny shared these pictures with us. That's Jackson (10) on the upper left and John Michael (7) above. Margaret will be 4 next month. Of course snow in Alabama is not all fun. I don't think we have snow removal equipment anywhere in the state. I-65 came to a complete stop. Cars and trucks were backed up for many miles. A large number of motor vehicles on I-565, the spur from I-65 into Huntsville, were unable to successfully drive across the many patches of ice. By yesterday evening, everything was back to normal. Cold but dry. All gone, my kind of snow. |
The kitchen remodel is moving along. All the cabinets have been removed. We are awaiting the electrician to add some lighting and move some switches. Yesterday we picked the granite slabs for our counter tops. In the meantime, we're doing our best to make meals with a microwave and a toaster oven and wash the few dishes in a tiny bar sink. We are taking this opportunity to enjoy some of the local restaurants when not feeling so creative at home.
