In Arizona it's that time of the year...the first day of school. And our grandkids Savannah and Ian were ready to go last Wednesday. Savannah, who turned 17 last month, is a senior at Desert Ridge High and is beginning to seriously think about college and a career. Ian (14) is a freshman and plays on the freshman football team. Both are hip deep into advance placement (AP) courses, and we trust they will continue to do very well in all their classes. Our daughter Melissa sent us this picture. She shares our tradition of taking pictures on the first day of school.
On a much sadder note, I want to report on the sudden death of my long-time bridge partner Harry Butcher. Following his nightly routine, he laid down on his bed to put drops into his eyes and then covered his eyes with a tissue to catch the excess. Only minutes later his wife found him, eyes still covered, non responsive. I have enjoyed the many years we played together, and I will miss him very much.
