Yesterday Nancy and I picked up our granddaughter Margaret (3 next month) and brought her to Huntsville. She's been looking forward to her "vacation" since Christmas. Nancy took this picture while we were still in her driveway in Birmingham. As you can see, she's already glued to the movie playing inside our van. It's a 96 mile drive from her house to ours, which can be an adventure. At the 25 mile mark we heard the question every adult hears many times. "Are we there yet?" We heard it again at the 34 and 74 mile markers. But we almost lost it when, at the 83 mile mark, she quietly mentioned the word "potty". With some encouragement from Nancy, we all made in the remaining 13 miles without an incident of the moisture variety. She took command of the house shortly after arrival.
This morning I attended the final rehearsal for tonight's concert by the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra. Guest violinist Elina Vahala was featured playing Mendelssohn's very popular violin concerto. That's about as close to the music of the gods as one can get. I'm sorry that Nancy had to stay home, but she and Margaret were planning a tea party and couldn't break away.
There's a birthday in the family in a few days...my sister Barbara. She lives in Tunis, Tunisia, so I won't be able to personally speak to her. So I'll use this medium to wish her a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY with many more to follow.
