Third Worst Ever!

Nancy and I returned from Birmingham last Sunday evening...just before the snow started falling. Right after midnight we saw the scene above when we stepped onto the front porch. I leaned against the porch column, held the camera as steady as I could, and took this picture. The snow continued to fall well into Monday and, of course, shut down the entire city. Monday morning, Nancy put on her polka dot yardwork boots, took her yardstick, and walked around the house measuring the snowfall. Seven inches. That's nothing for people from our home towns in Pennsylvania. But for Alabama...

According to the weather people on TV, for Huntsville, this was the third worst snowfall in history! We didn't get mail until yesterday. That rain, snow, sleet, hail thing the Post Office talks about doesn't apply, apparently, to the South. However, I can recall two other winter storms that were, at least in my mind, worse. So we must have been in Huntsville for all of them. Hmmm.
