Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

In January, after months of after-hours effort on his part, our son Mark opened the doors to his own orthodontics practice in Birmingham. This past week the Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony for its newest member. His Mom and I think he did a great job getting things going as quickly as he did. He even had the help of our daughter Melissa who designed his logo. You can visit his web site by clicking here.

Yesterday, April 1st, was an anniversary of sorts. It was on that day, 44 years ago, that I placed a phone call from San Francisco to Nancy in Pennsylvania and asked her to be my wife. I then hopped on board my ship and sailed off to Japan. Now in those days, the dark ages, there was no internet. Only snail mail. Nancy was reminded by her Mom that it was April Fools' Day when I proposed, and it was 6 weeks before my first letter arrived from Japan confirming that my proposal was NOT an April Fools joke. I can only imagine how long those 6 weeks must have seemed. But you all know that I would have never joked about such a serious matter. Never. Right? Right. As Paul Harvey used to say, now you know the rest of the story.
