It Followed Us Home!

We left Pennsylvania and Nancy's Mom and Aunt on Tuesday. Once we drove off the mountain, the roads were only wet, not snow covered. Once we got to the Mason-Dixon Line, the highways were pretty much dry. We stayed overnight in Abingdon, Virginia, and awoke Wednesday morning to falling snow and a snow-covered parking lot. The snow was following us! However, the highways were still clear, and we saw our last bit of snow on the ground in eastern Tennessee. By the time we arrived in Huntsville, the temperature was in the mid-thirties, and the world was right again.

But wouldn't you know, Thursday morning it started snowing...in Huntsville! Mother Nature having a little fun. I took the above picture of Nancy standing in front of our home around 3 PM. Now we're not really upset by this. We didn't have any kids to get to school, and neither one of us had to drive to work. And besides, the picture at the right, taken in front of Aunt Nina's house in Pennsylvania, shows what we left behind.

I do have to tell a little story however. In most of north Alabama, the schools were closed on Thursday and Friday. The announcement that the schools would be closed was made on Wednesday because of the THREAT of snow. And it did snow on Thursday. Last Monday morning I had to make a quick trip to the store before leaving Pennsylvania. The temperature was 5 degrees, the wind was blowing 30 to 40 MPH, and the roads were snow covered. There were 18 inches of snow in Aunt Nina's front yard and a fresh 5 inches in her driveway. On the way to the store, I was caught behind a school bus. I actually laughed, thinking about Alabama, each time I had to stop while the bus driver picked up kids for the local elementary school.
