A Visit to a Local Lake

Last Friday we went to Birmingham for a dental procedure for me and an overnight visit with Mark's family. When we returned to Huntsville last Saturday, we brought a couple of boys with us. It was their "vacation" and they had a great time playing on our Wii and checking out our back yard and the neighborhood. However, before returning them to their parents, we visited a local park.

Two years ago the city started building a park a short 10-minute walk from our home. They dug a kidney-shaped hole in the ground and waited for the rain to fill it up. That rain came this Spring, and the lake is filled to nearly overflowing. It's now a home to a family of Canadian geese and a favorite of many people who like to walk the paths around the lake.

Our grandchildren, Jackson (almost 7) and John Michael (4) were not impressed with the size or shape of the lake. But they did like the geese and, apparently, the geese liked them. At least until the geese found out that we didn't have any food for them.
