Branson Missouri

Three weekends ago found us joining Nancy's sister Elaine and her husband Karl in the Ozark Mountains of Missouri for a few days of entertainment, recreation, and relaxation. Branson offers a variety of entertaining shows from the famous to the not-so-famous.

Nancy and I arrived on Thursday. We stayed at a place called the Wilderness Club at Big Cedar about 10 miles south of Branson. Almost immediately after arriving, the four of us drove into Branson to scout out the area. When we drove past the Andy Williams Moon River Theater, we did a u-turn and headed into their parking lot. We all wanted to see his Christmas show. Amazingly, the theater, which held several thousand people, was sold out for the weekend! However, we were able to get very nice tickets for that evening. And what a terrific show it was. Andy Williams sounded as good as ever.

After picking up the Andy Williams tickets, we decided to get all of our tickets for the weekend just in case the other shows we were interested in were also about to be sold out. Elaine knew about a group called "Six" and wanted to get tickets for their show. We found their theater and did get good seats for Friday afternoon. "Six" is a group of six brothers. There were 10 boys in the family; Mom apparently wanted a girl but never got there. "Six" performed without a band or an instrument of any kind. However you couldn't tell it from their sound. At intermission I asked one of the brothers about a drum, and he told me that Owen made all the drum sounds. If you ever get to Branson, you don't want to miss this group.

We continued driving around town until we found the Shoji Tabuchi Theater. Our neighbors highly recommended this show to us. And while he did put on a fine performance, it was the ladies' powder room and gentlemen's lounge that we were told not to miss. If you go to the Shoji web site above, be sure to click on "About the Show" to find pictures and descriptions of the powder room and lounge. The only tickets available were for the Saturday morning show, and we bought four.

The remainder of our four days in Branson were spent sight seeing and shopping. The first picture above was taken at an overlook of Branson or at least the southwest corner of Branson. And while shopping late Saturday evening, Nancy managed to find Mrs. Claus where I think she put in some special requests for our grandchildren. I won't say what just in case they're listening. We had a good time and hated to start back to Huntsville on the following Monday.
